TOP NATIONAL AWARD WINNERS

Clayfield Construction attended the Considerate Constructors award ceremony in London recently. The Scheme recognises outstanding achievements in companies with regard to the consideration of its workforce, its neighbours, the environment and safety. Over 7,600 sites registered with the Scheme last year with only 7.5% of sites winning awards.

We were delighted to receive a Gold Award at the ceremony, however, we were overwhelmed when at the end of the ceremony we were presented with the overall top award for having the most Considerate Site in the United Kingdom. The award winning site was the T4 Project, Beevor Court, Barnsley for Yorkshire Housing.

This award is only presented to one company each year, signifying exemplary standards. Given the competition from National Contractors, we are obviously very proud of this award.

2008, 2009, 2010, 2011 Winners in Considerate Constructors

The Considerate Constructors Scheme is the national initiative set up by the construction industry to improve its image. Any work that could be construed by the general public as "construction" can be registered with the Scheme.

When monitoring, the Scheme considers all those involved in the construction process, from the Local Authority and the Client, to the operatives and delivery drivers. Sites and companies that register with the Scheme are monitored against an eight point Code of Considerate Practice, designed to encourage performance beyond statutory requirements.

CHAS - The Contractors Health and Safety Assessment Scheme

Principles and Purpose

Each month thousands of Contractors and Consultants (suppliers) apply for work with public and private sector organisations. To win work, they must meet the buyer's health and safety standards.

Assessing suppliers health and safety competence is usually a lengthy and time consuming process. Suppliers can sometimes meet one buyer's Health and Safety standards but not another. Being CHAS approved reduces duplication, as suppliers compliance is accepted by all CHAS buyers.

CHAS assesses applicants:

  1. Health and safety policy statement
  2. Their organisation for health and safety
  3. Their specific health and safety arrangements to a standard acceptable to our buyers and to others

These days CHAS is used by more than 400 public and private sector buyers, such as Councils, Housing Associations and NHS Trusts. Clayfield Construction have been CHAS certified since 2003.

National House-Building Council (NHBC)

The NHBC is the standard setting body and leading warranty and insurance provider for new and newly converted homes in the UK.

Started in 1936 as the National House-Builders Registration Council, the NHBC has worked consistently to raise the construction standards of new homes and provide protection for new homebuyers.

Their role is to work with the house-building and wider construction industry to provide inspection and technical services to raise standards of new homes and to provide consumer protection for new home owners.

There are approximately 20,000 house builders and developers on NHBC's Register (known as registered builders or registered developers) who agree to comply with their Rules and Standards when building new homes.

Only builders and developers who are on the NHBC Register can sell homes with the NHBC Buildmark range of cover.

Registered builders / developers have certain obligations, which are set out in the NHBC Rules of Registration. The Rules govern the behaviour and obligations of both parties; in particular they give NHBC the right to expel any Builder or Developer from the Register, not only for poor workmanship, but also for failure to remedy defects and other significant breaches of the NHBC Rules.

Clayfield Construction have been registered as a builder / developer since 1990 and are categorised as an A1 rated builder / developer (the highest possible rating).
